6th Tianjin East Asian Games Opening Ceremony


The 6th EAG is the largest international multi-sports games ever hosted inTianjin.  The Games will run from 6-15 October 2013 comprising a total of24 events.  The events are Aquatics (Swimming and Diving), Athletics,Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, Bowling, Cycling, DanceSport, DragonBoat, Fencing, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Karate, Shooting, SoftTennis, Squash, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball, Weightliftingand Wushu.  It is anticipated that more than 7,000 athletes, coaches,officials and media personnel representing China; DPR of Korea; Hong Kong,China; Japan; Republic of Korea; Macau, China; Mongolia; Chinese Taipeiand Guam will participate in this Games.

Headed by Mr. Timothy T.T. FOK, President of the Federation and Mr.Kenneth K.K. FOK, the Chef de Mission of Hong Kong Delegation, the 410-member Hong Kong, Chinatakes part in 23 events.  Competitions in tennis and squash started asearly as on 5 October 2013.  Competitions of team sports includingbaseball, hockey and volleyball also started on 6 October 2013, shortlybefore the Opening ceremony.

The Opening Ceremony was held in the Tianjin Gymnasium at 8pm and startedwith the march-in of delegations.  Each delegation was represented by 17athletes and officials. The Hong Kong flag was carried by Ms YEUNG Chui-Ling, a top fencer of the Delegation.  Mr. LIU Peng, President ofEast Asian Games Association and Chinese Olympic Committee delivered aspeech to welcome all participants.  He then invited Madam LIU Yandong,Vice Premier  to declare opening of the Games.  The Ceremony was concludedat around 9:20pm after a series of performance.

The Federation would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Home Affairs Bureau, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department for their staunch support, FILA Marketing (Hong Kong) Limited for providing the official sports uniform, Kent & Curwen for providing the official formal uniform, Air China in sponsoring the air tickets to Tianjin.
